Probiotics;
It is defined as 'live-non-living' microorganisms such as bacteria and yeast, which are resistant to digestion, and have beneficial effects on health when taken in appropriate doses and amounts.
The place of yeast in the microbiota:
Yeasts are found in the stomach and large intestine, and the fact that yeasts are not affected by antibiotics allows it to be given to patients using antibiotics at the same time as probiotics. Resistance to some antibiotics has also been found in Lactobacillus strains isolated from fermented meat and dairy products and used as probiotics.
The main threat is the transfer of resistance genes to pathogenic bacteria through these bacteria. However, genetic material transmission does not occur between bacteria and yeasts. Therefore, S.boulardii can be used safely.
